What Is Foundhercity You Ask?

FoundHerCity is a 3 months idea incubator that trains female undergraduates and recent graduates who are either already in tech or new to tech with the skills, mentorship, and resources necessary to turn their entrepreneurial ideas into thriving businesses, startups, NGOs, and Social Enterprises.

From personal experience and research, we’ve realized that many Nigerian female youths have great ideas with the potential to address pressing challenges within their communities. However, they do not know how to bring this idea to life. Many who try, either make mistakes that could have been avoided or experience extended delays in launching their solutions.

As an undergraduate in 2016, who was new in tech, I remember I had a couple of innovative ideas and solutions that stemmed from problems I noticed around me. I wanted to develop them into a business, but I didn’t know how to get started.

Picture this: students in hostels, hungry and tired after long lectures, relying on hostel aids called ‘Any Work’ (e.g. Aunty Moria) to purchase food for them at their preferred food vendor. But the 15-minute promised delivery time from ‘Aunty Moria’ most times turned into 40, and mixed-up orders were the norm.

I thought about building an app that connects students directly with campus food vendors. One where other students could also sign up as delivery agents, making extra bucks as they deliver the item on their way to the hostel. Alas, fear and the lack of know-how held me back. I also thought I was too young, too inexperienced, and that the app wouldn’t fly.

Fast forward to today, we have amazing startups solving this problem. The realization of this has prompted my team and I to make sure, stories like this do not keep repeating themselves through Foundhercity. Why? Because we’ve seen too many brilliant ideas fade away because of knowledge gaps and the lack of a support system.

So, if you are a female undergraduate or recent graduate with a brilliant business idea but don’t know where to start, I’m excited to introduce FoundHerCity, a 3-month program designed to help you turn your ideas into real businesses!
